Budget: Request a Reallocation of Funds
The Foundation allows Researchers, subject to the grantee institution's approval, to make changes to and/or reallocate up to 25% of the approved budget without receiving JSMF approval. This means the Foundation permits re-allocating up to 25% of any budget category during a grant year.
However, if it's determined that the items to be changed amounts to more than 25% in a category, grantee institutions must request and receive approval from JSMF.
Please submit fund "reallocation" request for the proposed changes. Include amount(s) and year(s) that you wish to change and include a brief justification. Reallocation requests should be sent via email to Grants Manager Cheryl Washington.
Be certain to include the following in your justification:
- The line item category and amount that will be reduced or increased because of the change, i.e., "The 'Equipment' category will be increased in Year 1 by $1,500 and reduced in Year 2 by the same amount."
- If a new line item category is being added, state exactly from which categories the reallocated funds derive.
- Subtotal all changed or newly-added categories with the new grand total for all affected years. Check the figures to be sure the total matches the exact amount of funds remaining.
JSMF will send the approval notification via email.
The grantee institution can request that funds budgeted for a single year be reallocated over the entire grant period--whether it is one, two or three years--if desired. The term should be clearly communicated in the request letter to the Foundation.
