Funding Policies

Policies: "Once-Every-Three-Years" Eligibility Policy

(Effective January 1, 2007)

Institutions sponsoring an application on behalf of a particular Researcher to JSMF programs (Research Awards, Collaborative Activity Awards, or Scholar Awards) can only submit one application every 3 years on behalf of the named Researcher. When an researcher submits a letter of inquiry to the Collaborative Activity Award, a Scholar Award application, or a proposal for a Research Award in CY 2008 and the proposal is not funded, the next period of eligibility for that particular investigator and the proposal would begin in CY 2011. This policy is not intended to limit the number of applications from an institution. The intent of the policy is to encourage investigators and institutions to carefully consider the goodness of fit between a proposal and the goals of JSMF programs prior to submitting. Whether the guideline applies to Co-Researcher depends very much on the degree to which they are involved in and contribute to the substance of the application.
