Summary | Guaranteed basic income (GBI) is a cash payment provided on a regular basis to members of a community with no strings attached and no work requirements. It's intended to create an income floor below which no one can fall. St. Louis’s GBI program aimed to increase financial stability and improve economic and health outcomes for families with low-to-moderate incomes, but was paused due to legal challenges. JSMF’s investment continues the program, providing $500/month to 540 low-to-moderate income families with school-aged children. By sustaining the GBI program, WashU's research on its effectiveness was also able to continue. |
